If we want to talk about demographic data, we must only refer to Formentera and not to Espalmador, the closest island to Formentera, which is completely uninhabited due to the fact that it has been declared nature reserve and also due to the fact that Espalmador is a private island.
Not too many years ago, Formentera had approximately 3.000 inhabitants, but the tourist sector has undergone a great increase. The profits that this sector contributes to the island has raised the standard of living and, consequently, its number of inhabitants. According to the las study made in Formentera, the population almost reaches 7.079 inhabitants, 1.070 of which belong to the group of foreigners currently living in the island, attracted by its calm and peace.
If we divide these 1.070 foreign inhabitants by nationalities, we obtain the following table
From these 7.079 currently inhabitants of Formentera, the distribution between men and women is nearly 50%, althoug male population is slightly ahead of female population.
